The Dog Bar in Downtown St. Pete
Posted on August 16, 2022
Did you know that right here in St. Pete there’s a place where you can take your dogs, let them off-leash, and you can grab a beer and relax? In this episode of Hounds, Hops, and Houses, we’re going to take you on a tour of The Dog Bar, a great venue that combines dogs and beer. We’ll explore everything from the dog park to food trucks so you can see what it’s all about.
Welcome To The Dog Bar
The first thing I want to show you is the dog park. Obviously, this is what makes this bar so different from any other place in St. Pete. It’s also the reason that it took 29 months just to get the permits to open the bar. There are over 4,500 square feet of space for your dog to go play with other dogs and wrestle around while you relax with a beer.
During the summer, there’s even a place for the dogs to cool off in a bone-shaped pool. The fences on the inside are all short enough for you to see over, so you don’t ever have to worry about not being able to see your dog. With double-gated entryways at all the different points, you’ll never have to worry about your dog getting out to the street and running around.
A Great Weekend Spot
On the weekends, my wife Carrie and I come here just so we can hang out with the dogs and enjoy a beer. You’ve got to be careful so you don’t get run over because this place gets packed on the weekend. There are sometimes upwards of 40 to 50 dogs here at one time.
If your pups don’t like to play with the big dogs, that’s completely fine. They do have another section for the smaller dogs to keep them safe, especially because oftentimes there might be two or three Great Danes running around at one time. Of course, the park is covered with astroturf, so if your dog has to do their business, no big deal; they spray it right off and it gets cleaned up.
There are also referees on staff during peak hours so that if any dogs get out of line, they’re able to control them. They also help with the cleaning up and all of that stuff during peak hours. However, if your dog does get a little feisty or another dog gets feisty with your dog, they will ask them to leave for the day and come back and try another day.
Events And Food Trucks
All of the dogs are required to have a membership to come to The Dog Bar. This requires them to be up to date on all their vaccines and for them to be fixed. The Dog Bar also does lots of events, including Grooming Days, Puppy Dinners, and even a Super Bowl Sunday event called Wolf Ball where the puppies compete and have a ton of fun.
Of course, food and dogs don’t really mix that well. The Dog Bar outsources its food to food trucks, and there is no lack of variety coming through. Sometimes there’s lobster and sometimes there’s barbecue, and every single food truck is fantastic.
I love the fact that Dog Bar does this, as it really allows a ton of small businesses to come out, sell their products, and make some money out in front of a thriving business. I hope they continue to do this forever.
Come Check It Out
Now that you have an idea of exactly what goes on at The Dog Bar, you’ll definitely want to check it out. It’s located at 2300 Central Avenue right in the heart of the Grand Central District. You can also get more details at The Dog Bar’s website.
