Relocating to Clearwater? What They Don’t Tell you.

Are you moving to Clearwater, Florida but aren’t sure what to expect? In this episode of Hounds, Hops, and Houses, I’m going to walk you through the top 10 things people should know before they move to Clearwater. We’ll look at everything from weather to watersports so you’re armed with information before you pack your bags.

Weather, Traffic, And Seafood

The first thing you need to know is that it gets really hot in the summer here. Clearwater averages 91 degrees in the summer months, so make sure you bring your sunscreen. You’ll also want to make sure you’ve got some nice air conditioning to go back to for a break in the middle of the day.

Tip number two is that the traffic here is crazy in March. The bridge is backed up for 45 minutes to an hour. I recommend you learn the back roads or find another less popular beach to go to so that you can avoid the tourists altogether.

Third, Clearwater has some of the best seafood you will find. Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill has the best blackened grouper sandwich on the planet, hands down. Make sure you pick one up.

Sunsets, Storms, And Brews

Tip number four is that sunsets are incomparable. Jimmy’s Crow’s Nest even has a countdown and celebration when the sun finally goes below the horizon. You definitely don’t want to miss it.

The fifth thing you need to know is that Clearwater is the lightning capital of the world. Make sure you find a covered place to watch the storms rolling in, as they are absolutely amazing. The great thing is that it will probably pass in 15 to 20 minutes.

If you’d like beer, the sixth thing you need to know is that Clearwater is your area. Clearwater is home to five breweries, and Tampa Bay is home to more than 80 of them. So drink up!

Dogs, Baseball, And Dolphins

Tip number seven is that Clearwater is a very very dog-friendly city. There are even beaches where you can take your furry friend out and let him run with the big dogs. So if you have a pet, you’ll love all the things you can do with them here in Clearwater.

If you like baseball, the eighth thing you need to know is that the Phillies have their spring training right here in Clearwater. There are also a bunch of other fields just a short drive away, so you can knock that family day out of the park.

Tip number nine is that if you’re a fan of dolphins and sea turtles, Clearwater is the place to be. You can head on over to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium where Winter the dolphin lives. Alternatively, head out on a boat and you’ll probably see some dolphins swimming in circles catching some fish out on the Gulf.

Last but not least, the tenth thing you need to know is that watersports are a must here. From renting jet skis and parasailing to just bobbing in the Gulf, make sure you get into the water and live up the beach to the fullest.
