Living in Clearwater Beach Pros & Cons

Are you thinking about moving to Clearwater, Florida, and want somebody to give you the lowdown of what it’s really like? In this episode of Hounds, Hops, and Houses, I’m going to give you the good, the bad, and the ugly of living right here in Clearwater. We’ll look at the top three reasons people love living here so you can decide if this area is right for you.

The Pros of Living In Clearwater

The first thing we’ll talk about is the top three reasons people love living here. The very first and most popular reason for living in Clearwater is, obviously, the beach. Clearwater Beach ranks in the top three beaches in the entire country, year after year—and for good reason. There are tons of places to eat great seafood, enjoy a sunset, or take in the nightlife all scattered around the city.

The second reason people love living in Clearwater is the people. Whether you’re looking to take it easy all day or go out and experience many shops and stores, the people will be sure to welcome you in and help you out. Most of the people here are from another area of the country. These transplants were new to the area once, too. The other people you’ll find are generally tourists just trying to get a tan and enjoy the beach.

The third reason people love living here is the views and the wildlife. With most of the city being a stone’s throw away from the beach, you have views of the Gulf of Mexico everywhere. Beautiful palm trees line the beach, and you can truly get a feeling of Zen when you take it all in.

You can also see a wide range of sea life right here in Clearwater. Whether you’re watching a bunch of new little turtle hatchlings swim out into the Gulf of Mexico or visit the Marine Aquarium where Winter the dolphin lives, you can get a broad range of animals right here.

The Cons Of Living In Clearwater

While those are some great pros of living in Clearwater, let’s take a look at some of the negative things. Just like any city, Clearwater is not perfect. If you’re serious about moving here, you need to know this stuff.

The first negative about the area is the winter traffic. It absolutely sucks. The main bridge into town can be backed up for 45 minutes, so you better learn your backroads and find another way in and out of town. Second, the heat can be overwhelming in the summer. With average temperatures over 90 degrees, sweat will become an accessory for you.

The third con is that the bugs can be terrible here. Whether it’s the mosquitoes, fire ants, or the no-see-ums, between the sweat and the salt in the air they’ll be munching on you for a couple of minutes before you even know you’ve been bitten. Make sure you have your bug spray.
